Katerina Strati is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, University of Cyprus. She completed her PhD under the supervision of Dr. Paul Lambert at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. During her postdoctoral research, she trained as an AECC fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Maria Blasco at the Spanish National Cancer Research Center, Madrid. Her laboratory at the University of Cyprus studies the role of viral oncogenes in the process of carcinogenesis, differentiation and regeneration.

• Genetic and molecular mechanisms regulating dietary restriction (DR)-induced stress responses and longevity phenotype in C. elegans.
• The role of epigenetic regulation in aging process

Dr. A. Ranganadha Reddy is a senior academician, researcher, and administrator with more than 18 years of teaching, research, and academic leadership experience in bioinformatics, computational biology, biotechnology, health informatics, and artificial intelligence applications in life sciences. He currently serves as Professor and Head of the Department of Bioinformatics at Vignan’s Foundation for Science, Technology & Research (VFSTR), Andhra Pradesh, India.
His research interests include bioinformatics, machine learning and deep learning for biomedical image analysis, genomic and proteomic data analysis, structural bioinformatics, health informatics, drug discovery, and computational approaches in biological sciences. He has supervised undergraduate and postgraduate research projects and has actively contributed to curriculum development, accreditation activities, research mentoring, and scholarly publishing.

Research in the StrEAMS Lab integrates methods and theory from the fields of landscape and aquatic ecology to study the connections between landscape patterns and processes and the ecology of stream ecosystems. Our primary research goal is to understand the limits and controls of ecological communities and processes in stream ecosystems in landscapes dominated by human activities. Our secondary goal is to apply ecological knowledge to generate tools used by government and non-government agencies to conduct effective aquatic monitoring and assessments enabling informed management decisions.

I am presently involved in three Different Govt Funded projects related to 'cell and molecular biology' as a PI or Co PI. Involved in teaching animal cell and molecular biology in BITS Pilani Goa Campus in the Department of Biological Sciences.

Cell and Development Biology

We study the structure and mechanism of membrane proteins mediating active transport and protein glycosylation. Active transport processes are essential for cellular homeostasis and have a key role in human physiology. We investigate transporters of lipidic substrates including drugs, lipids, and bile salts. Glycosylation is the most abundant post-translational protein modification, and the glycans and carbohydrates attached to proteins are involved in many processes associated with health and disease. We study glycosyltransferases involved in N-​linked and C-​linked protein glycosylation. Our goal is to elucidate the mechanistic basis of physiologically important processes and provide opportunities for drug discovery and bio-​engineering.

Microbiology and Immunology

Masahiro Sakagami, Ph.D., focuses his research on pulmonary biopharmaceutics. Despite the potential advantages of respiratory drug delivery as a route of administration, our knowledge associated with pulmonary biopharmaceutics and pharmacology is still limited. His group has developed and employed several in vivo and in vitro lung systems to characterize pulmonary disposition (absorption, metabolism and clearance) of solutes and fluid, and to assess therapeutic potential of new molecular entities for inhalation. Currently, the research is focused on corticosteroids, therapeutic macromolecular peptides, proteins and antibodies for inhalation in the treatment of asthma, emphysema and certain systemic diseases. These studies will provide valuable information on understanding pulmonary biopharmaceutics and pharmacology for inhaled therapeutics.

Professor and Dean (R&D) at Sri Venkateswara University in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, India. He obtained his doctorate in Microbiology from Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Anantapur, India, in 2003. He has 25 years of teaching and 27 years of Research experience. His research during his studies focused on Bioenergy and Bioactive compounds, including Microbial enzymes, secondary surfactants, characterization of metallic and Nonmetallic nanoparticles, and applications in science and technology. Dr. Narasimha has published more than 160 research articles in reputed National and International journals. He attended National and International conferences and symposia, presented research papers, and served as an expert member/resource person for scientific programs. He handled research projects and served as Principal Investigator for Major Research projects sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Department of Science and Technology (DST), University Grants Commission, and Board of Nuclear Sciences (BRNS), and was one of the coordinators for the Center of Excellence in Bioenergy and Innovation (SVU-RUSA). I have an experience of teaching Immunology, Nutritional Immunology, Stem Cell Biology, Stem Cells & Regenerative Medicine, Proteomics, Microbiology, Virology, Biomedical Applications of Nanotechnology and Ethics in Biomedical Research and Nursing practice courses to graduate & post-graduate students. Moreover, I have worked with multiple companies as a researcher & manager of R&D division and technical advisor for designing and construction of research laboratories and clean rooms in India and abroad. I served as a member in various capacities in academia, administration and industry for more than 22 years.

Our research integrates molecular biology, functional genomics, fungal genetics, and host–pathogen interaction models to uncover how fungi survive, adapt, and cause disease.
We are also interested in space microbiology, synthetic biology of edible fungi, and one-health fungal epidemiology, reflecting our lab’s interdisciplinary approach.

Research
Senescent cells accumulate in normal tissues during aging, sites of age-related diseases, premalignant lesions, and tumors following therapy. We study why and how senescent cells affect cancer, aging, and age-related diseases.

Cellular senescence prevents both tumorigenesis and tissue damage. However, the long-term presence of senescent cells can paradoxically promote tissue damage and aging. These non-cell-autonomous effects are partially mediated by the secretion of soluble factors from senescent cells to their microenvironment. These soluble factors impact tissue homeostasis and can either interfere or support the normal function of tissues. To understand the role of cellular senescence in tissue damage, cancer, aging and more recently in embryonic development, our research aims to uncover the underlying mechanisms associated with the interaction of senescent cells with their microenvironment.
